It’s Super Bowl time! Even those of us not interested in football will participate whether it be for the game, the halftime show or just the food, family and friends. Here are 8 of our favorite super bowl recipes that will make your super bowl party a huge success!
The NFL will provide the game and halftime show. You will have to supply the food, family and friends. We can provide a menu of delicious homemade appetizers and main courses that will make your party a huge success. Better yet, with the exception of our chili, the Super Bowl recipes we are sharing were created as healthy lighter meals. You will be able to enjoy the game and food while avoiding the “day after” guilt and bloating we have all experienced the Monday after the big game. Just try to avoid the double fried chicken wings that will definitely be brought by one or more of your guests.
The objective of the Super Bowl recipes we are sharing is to provide you with some of our favorite recipes that you can prepare for your Super bowl party. Each will be delicious and satisfying making it easy to avoid the fat laden dips, wings and fried chicken. Below are 8 of our best recipes that will make your Super Bowl party a huge success. First, we provide our selections for dips and appetizers. The bean dip is homemade and incomparable to any bean dip you may purchase in a jar or prepared elsewhere. You have the option to make it mild or as spicy as you like by modifying the type of peppers used. We prefer it spicy, with jalapeños and habanero as a topping, but that decision is left to you.
Our homemade guacamole is simple to make and its texture and taste is incomparable to the products found in the sealed container at your grocery. It is really unjust for the two to share the same name. This guacamole will compare to the fresh made at your table guacamole at your favorite Mexican restaurant. We have added beef on a weck as a third appetizer to our favorite list. If made with traditional kummelweck bread, these sandwiches would be a meal. This bread isn’t available everywhere so we offer a substitute that is more appropriate as an “app”. In our appetizer version we substitute seasoned Hawaiian rolls for the kummelweck bread. The result is a fantastic sandwich appetizer that will be a simple, delicious and different selection for most of us. Our friends in western New York are well aware of this great combination.
Guacamole
Difficulty: EasyA simple blend of avocado, garlic, onion, cilantro, jalapeño, tomatoes and lime. That’s it!
Next we present our favorite sides and main courses. These recipes will make your super bowl party memorable to your guests as a result of the selection of amazing dishes.
The turkey burritos will be better than any burrito you or your guests have ever had (possible caveat if you live in the Southwest, home of the burrito). The Stromboli will be a delicious and unique hand held snack or meal your guests will devour. You may find The Mexican Tortas a bit large for a hand held for a super bowl party. Consider replacing the torta rolls with a loaf of your favorite soft Italian bread, removing the extra dough inside and filling the loaf with the torta ingredients as described in the recipe. When filled, slice the loaf of bread with the filling into 2 inch sections for an amazing hand held sandwich.
Each of these recipes were created as a healthy meal and can substitute for many other traditional super bowl foods that are laden with fat, salt and their unhealthy fillers. Focusing on these dishes and avoiding the bad food will allow you to enjoy the game, the food and the party with zero guilt.
The chili con carne and corn bread don’t quite qualify as healthy meal alternatives. However, who ever heard of a super bowl party without chili and corn bread. Both of these recipes will wow your guests. Should you want to reduce the fat and calorie content of the chili, simply replace the beef stew meat with ground turkey or ground chicken. Doing so will significantly reduce the cook time (to about 2 hours) and improve the nutritional value of the dish by lowering its fat content.
We aren’t aware of a lower fat corn bread recipe that compares to this one. Reducing the fat creates a very dry tasting corn bread. So if fat content is a concern, just modify the chili and eat a small piece of corn bread, it is the super bowl!!
Lastly, we included a recipe for naan pizzas. The original recipe utilizes garden fresh summer vegetables. Most of the country cannot access fresh produce in February, we suggest replacing the garden fresh cherry tomatoes and peppers with the store bought variety. Flavor will be reduced from the summer version but everyone will still absolutely devour these delicious Naan Pizza’s.
Better than Chipotle Turkey Burritos
Difficulty: EasyThese perfectly seasoned, cheesy, and bold flavored burritos are healthier than store bought and will have your family and friends asking for more, and the recipe!
Stromboli
Difficulty: EasyStromboli is a pizza roll up into a loaf with your favorite toppings as the filling.
Mexican Torta with Chicken and Guacamole
Difficulty: EasyA layer of seasoned roasted or grilled chicken, refried beans, cheese, guacamole and lettuce.
Shredded Beef Chili con Carne
Difficulty: EasyA simple and delicious chili recipe made with beef and beans in a tomato based sauce.
Naan Pizza with Garden Fresh Banana Peppers and Cherry Tomatoes
