How long does it take to make pizza dough? With our recipe you can make pizza dough in 90 minutes. You may never buy frozen or store-bought dough again! Serve homemade pizza made with fresh dough in 2 hours!
What is the secret to our pizza dough recipe? You need a bread machine with a dough setting. That is it.
How do I cook my pizza?
Once the dough is prepared, you can cook your pizza by launching it directly into a pizza oven or kitchen oven. We have always cooked our grandma style pies in a kitchen oven using a pizza pan. For a good result, a high quality pizza pan is a necessity. Ours was bought 35 years ago in a small shop on Mulberry street in New York’s Little Italy neighborhood. It’s treated as a treasure. The Lloyd pans have a great reputation.
Pizza lovers who don’t make homemade pizza often ask, what is pizza dough made from?
The ingredients are very basic; bread flour, sugar, water, salt, olive oil and yeast.
Now that you know what it’s made from many will ask; is pizza dough difficult to make?
No, this recipe is simple and fast. You will find many recipes that can take hours or days to prepare before you get to make a pizza. For most of us that is a deal breaker. This is why many will turn to store-bought dough. It’s just easy. After reading this blog, you will be surprised at how simple pizza dough really is to make. We hope it gets rid of any intimidation you may have had. Once you try this technique, we are confidant that you will be enjoying actual homemade pizza quite often. You will adopt our motto, “if it’s pizza day, it’s a good day!”
When measuring the flour, we recommend using a scale for consistency. Measuring flour by volume will yield highly variable quantities of flour and inconsistent results. We use this food scale and it works great! After weighing and measuring each ingredient, simply place into the bread machine, set the machine to dough and press start. In 90 minutes you will open the bread machine and find a perfect ball of pizza dough. We have used an Oster machine with great results. If you require a stainless steel look the Cuisinart is a terrific choice.
Now you can use your imagination to create your favorite pizza. Margherita, sausage and pepper, white, spinach, mushroom or any topping you desire! You are only limited by your imagination and what is in your pantry. While the dough is being made you can create whatever topping you choose. It is possible to create a pizza from scratch in 2 hours!
Another benefit to creating a fresh homemade pizza is that you control the ingredients. How many times have you had frozen or takeout pizza and had grease pour off the pizza into your plate? We call those dead calories. The oil added to frozen and takeout pizza is why pizza can be so unhealthy and high in calories. Your homemade pizza will never have excess oil and grease, unless that is what you want.

Optional Steps using this Pizza Dough Recipe
For those looking to go to the next level, make the dough a few days early and let it sit covered in the refrigerator for a day or two. This is not necessary, however, you will find the dough possesses a more distinct flavor, a nicer texture and better air pockets or bubbles.

However, for those looking to make pizza a serious hobby, you will need to allot more time to pizza preparation and develop a skill set. Making pizza at the next level requires practice and time.
