However, most recipes include Napa cabbage, water, salt, rice flour, Korean chili flakes, gochujang, Korean radish, chives or green onion, garlic, ginger, sugar, onion, fish sauce and fermented shrimp.

We have made our basic fried rice recipe for years. It is a great side for most Asian food but also complements many traditional American main courses. We recently found this recipe for kimchi fried rice that inspired us to modify our fried rice for a change of pace. We were already fans of kimchi and are always looking for ways to add it to our diet. As we often do after observing interesting food and recipes, we took our traditional recipe, in this case fried rice, and modified it by adding kimchi. The result was heavenly. The kimchi took plain Jane fried rice and made it a bold and savory dish with a bit of a punch.
To make this recipe, we usually start with leftover rice. Whenever we make rice we always make enough for two meals. It simplifies cooking during the week and contributes to quick weeknight meals. Fried rice or any Asian dish is perfect to make with leftover rice. Otherwise, mix some spinach and kielbasa with the rice or make a Mexican dish! Leftover rice in the refrigerator always is used during the week as part of a side. Leftover rice saves 20-30 minutes when preparing a meal during the week.
As with most Asian cooking, the key to making this recipe is being organized and having everything prepared before you are ready to cook. We suggest cutting everything earlier in the day or the night before for a really quick meal. Each of these tools are extremely helpful when making Asian food. Solid options are recommended below in the equipment section. Once all the ingredients are cut and measured, it only takes 10 minutes to cook this dish. A wok is also highly recommended.
To prepare this recipe, scramble the eggs, remove and place them in a plate . Then sear the chicken in a hot wok and remove. Add the onions, ginger and garlic to the wok, then the carrots, peas and zucchini. Yes zucchini, it goes great in this dish.
Then add the rice. If the rice is cold it will be clumpy. Be sure to work the clumps apart and allow the rice to get warm. Add the sauce and combine until rice is a uniform color. Add kimchi, chicken, eggs and combine. Then add bean sprouts, scallions and sesame seeds. Combine well and continue to stir fry until hot. If you already have a favorite fried rice recipe, use it instead and try adding kimchi. We think you will love this dish.
